Our wood products are all handcrafted in the shop of Knots to Bowls in Ontario, Canada. We utilize wood from dead or downed trees and imported exotic woods to create wood items for gifts, the home and office. Wooden bowls are all turned from a single burl or piece of wood. In the photo above a square wooden bowl is being turned from Bubinga wood (also known as African Rosewood.)

Handmade Wooden Products
This sugar maple tree blew down In the town of Rockwood. The tree was close to 60' tall. To utilize wood like this I start by cutting the tree up Into blanks and turn them on the lathe while the wood inside is still green and wet.
Once I get the shape I want, the rough turned bowl gets stored away for up to 1 year to allow it to thoroughly dry.
The rough bowl is then remounted on the lathe and is turned to the final shape. Many coats of a food grade finish are then applied.
Once the finish Is dry the wood product then gets a final buff and is stored away ready to sell.
